Notes: Since 1994, almost any time this song has been played live, a guest violinist has played with the band (before Parachute was recorded, the song was played without its trademark violin part, which was written for the album). For selected shows of the Spring 2003 tour, the three members of Guster plus Joe Pisapia of Joe, Marc's Brother came on stage for the encore wearing mop-tops and ties. Introduced as The Gusters from Twigydempshire, England, they played a medley of modified versions of Window/What You Wish For/Great Escape/Hey Hey We're The Gusters while bobbing their heads to the beat of Brian's drums. On the Live in Knoxville 9/4/03 version of the song, Patrick Ross of Blue Merle guests on violin.
Album Version Live "The Gusters" Version
A gaping wound tells the story of it all
A man lost only to find
What was left of his mind
With no hope of a scar at all

You say go slow
But something's right behind me
I can run away for only so long
It will not stop
I will come down

Let me find my way
I'll take you to the edge
I'll go across that window
And I'll carry you there

When nothing goes right
When days don't come tonight
When all I see is the error of my own enemy

A man alone and cut and torn for it
His whole life friend after friend
They're all flash in the pan
With no hope of rejoice at all

You say go slow
But something's right behind me
I can run away for only so long
It will not stop
I will come down

Let me find my way
Don't might be scared of what you might be saying
I'll take you to the edge
Throw away those empty fields
I'll go across that window
Throw away those
And I'll carry you there

When nothing goes right
When days don't come tonight
Throw away those empty fields
I'll go across that window
Throw away those
And I'll carry you
Let me find my way
Don't might be scared of what you might be saying
I'll take you to the edge
Throw away those empty fields
I'll go across that window
