Notes: Ryan once noted that while Guster was in the studio recording Lost and Gone Forever, I Spy was the last song written for the album. They rushed it from the writing stage to tape and never wrote a satisfactory end to the song. Eventually, they began playing different things as the last verse. They always play one of these live. The "Numbers" version contains a verse of "Numbers" by G. Love & Special Sauce. The "Secrets" version contains an original verse, written by Guster. On the Spring 2003 tour, Guster premiered an original musical outro which appears on Live in Knoxville 9/4/03.

We went down to the May Parade
Mumbled words under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I am dying to tell you
I've been so damn tired

It went down at the May Parade
Bitter words under my breath
There is something I've been dying to do
I was meaning to tell you
I've been so damn sad
Cause I spy something red

You don't how far you've gone
Or recognize who you've become
How'd you grow to be so hard?
Sick of playing my part

We went down at the May Parade
Alcohol under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I am dying to tell you
I've been so damn sad
Cause I spy something red

You don't how far you've gone
Or recognize who you've become
Where'd you grow to be so hard?
Sick of playing my part

We went down to the Gay Parade
Mumbled words under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I am dying to tell you
I've been so damn tired

It went down at the Gay Parade
Bitter words under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I've been dying to tell you
I've been so damn sad
Cause I spy something red

You don't how far you've gone
Or recognize who you've become
How'd you grow to be so hard?
Sick of playing my part

We went down at the Gay Parade
Alcohol under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I've been dying to tell you
I've been so damn sad
Cause I spy something red

You don't how far you've gone
Or recognize who you've become
Where'd you grow to be so hard?
Sick of playing my part

Though the roof may leak in many places
Shining faces shining faces
May she sleep in peace
And wake up in my arms
Some day soon some day soon
Some day soon some day soon

We went down to the Gay Parade
Mumbled words under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I am dying to tell you
I've been so damn tired

It went down at the Gay Parade
Bitter words under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I've been dying to tell you
I've been so damn sad
Cause I spy something red

You don't how far you've gone
Or recognize who you've become
How'd you grow to be so hard?
Sick of playing my part

We went down at the Gay Parade
Alcohol under my breath
There is something I've been meaning to do
I've been dying to tell you
I've been so damn sad
Cause I spy something red

You don't how far you've gone
Or recognize who you've become
Where'd you grow to be so hard?
Sick of playing my part

You've got the reasons why you're lost
To all the people that you've crossed
You tell the secrets that you've got
So what
