And here we go...for all the marbles. Well, in the second division anyway.
Round 22 was not kind to me. While by opponent was racking up scores like 76 for WASTREL, 69 for UTILIZED and 40 for PEAKY, I made exactly three plays where I used more than four tiles - and they were all five-tile plays. I did miss ONEROUS in midgame which would have made things interesting, but a 43-point ANY put those thoughts out of my head, en route to a 407-332 loss.
Round 23 saw another stroke of luck similar to round 17 - after a slow start, I played STORIED and he countered with AUnTLIER for 74, and we played until the end with just that one blank coming out. After playing LEZ for 36 and taking a 50-point lead, he had ?CILOST in his rack, which, which combined with an open S on the board, made SOLSTICe. But inexplicably, he tried SOLTICeS, which I challenged off and then tried to block with WEAVE. Turns out he still had two bingoes - VOCaLIST from the V and COrTISOL through another O - but he was short on time and played elsewhere. I actually missed the nine-letter bingo STEARINES through S-E on my last rack, but still won 387-333.
Round 24 was much like round 22 - but this time I made ONE play of more than four tiles. TAWNIEST was not enough to overcome his phony BALUMIAS and legit LOBSTER, and I lost 409-338.
Then some other stuff happened that I can't remember word for word, I made a bad gamble on my last game when trying for a money spot, lost, ended up 13th instead of 9th, and I got sick of not blogging and published this post. The end.
